Facial Reanimation
Facial Paralysis Treatment
Partial or complete facial paralysis may result from an injury or condition that inhibits the ability to move the facial muscles. It may be difficult to smile, blink, speak or swallow properly among other issues. Nerve grafting is a common approach in facial paralysis treatment. This involves moving healthy tissues from one part of the body (the donor area) that has fat, nerves and tendons to the target area where the muscle paralysis exists.
Nerve Graft Techniques
There are a number of nerve grafting techniques that include: Gracilis muscle transplant, cross-facial nerve graft, temporalis tendon transfer, hypoglossal nerve transfer and masseteric muscle transfer.
