Reasons For BKA Stump Revision
Reconstruction of soft tissue loss around the stump in BKA is a challenging surgery as stable skin with sufficient soft tissue to enable weight bearing is required. This is essential to provide a pain free stump and stable knee joint. Techniques such as microsurgery and free tissue transfer are used to help long-term successful outcomes. Inadequate soft tissue on the weight bearing area of the stump can result in the following complications: - Ulceration - Chronic infection - Inability to fit prosthesis
