What is Foot Drop
Foot drop is a condition that occurs when the muscles and tendons that flex the foot up are no longer working. This leads to the foot or toes dragging on the ground making it difficult to walk. Typically this is the result of nerve injury, neuropathy (nerve disease) or stroke.
Foot Drop Treatment
The goal of foot drop repair is to improve a patient’s ability to flex their foot and ankle up. Surgical procedure to treat foot drop – tendon transfer – is likely due to non-surgical options such as a brace, not being helpful.
A tendon transfer procedure takes a tendon with attached muscle (most commonly the posterior tibial tendon) that is still working from one part of the foot, and moves it to another part of the foot to try to replace the missing muscle function.
